Destroying Negative Thought

I wanted to share this story with you in case it helps any of you out there. I’ve been working on some pretty big projects lately, and as soon as I opened my eyes this morning, all kinds of negative thoughts crept in.

Before I knew it, I felt like there was a weight on my chest.

It was a terrible way to start the day, especially because I have a ton of work to do.

I decided I was going to do everything I know how to do to fix it. I’m a big fan of “throw everything at it” when it comes to my mental health, and it usually serves me pretty well.

If you’re struggling, I suggest you try a little bit of everything and take note of the things that help you shift your energy, mood, or mindset a little bit.

You would be surprised how much small shifts add up throughout the day and overtime.

If you’re able to call in positive feelings, even just for a few moments throughout the day, you’re giving your brain a dose of good chemicals that can have an impact on the way you feel over time.

I always think about this as going to the emotional gym, and I’m always trying to build up my happiness muscles by recalling my favorite memories or thinking about something positive.

Different things work for different people, but here are the things I did to shift my negative troll thoughts this morning. I know this looks like a lot, but many of these only took a couple of minutes each.

  • Meditate
  •  Yoga / Stretch
  • Journal
  • Write affirmations or repeat affirmations
  • Rearrange my schedule
  • Cuddle with my cat
  • Play some music
  • Think of one thing I am  thankful for
  • Send love to all of my loved ones
  • Reframe my negative thoughts with a positive one

We all go through negative thoughts. What works for me is noticing my feelings, accept them, and changing my mindset.  It takes practice to make a routine out of it, kind of like brushing your teeth.

Sending you Love and Light
